What is acute pain?
Acute pain can be described as the first 6 weeks when pain begins to occur. Usually, but not always, there has been some kind of event or injury to occur which causes the pain to arise. During the acute phase, pain is usually at its peak intensity and is most noticeable by individuals. A heighten nervous system and increase in inflammation are the major contributors in this phase of pain. It is important to address pain in this phase as early as possible to prevent the occurrence of chronic pain.
